Sept. 8 (Bloomberg) -- Roger Federer beat Andy Murray in straight sets to become the first man in 84 years to win the U.S. Open five consecutive times.

The 27-year-old Federer beat Britain's Murray 6-2, 7-5, 6-2 at the National Tennis Center in New York to extend his winning streak to 34 matches at the year's final Grand Slam tournament.

Federer is within one of matching Pete Sampras's record of 14 Grand Slam singles championships. He's the first man to win five straight titles at two major tournaments, having also done it at Wimbledon from 2003-07.

``One thing's for sure, I'm not going to stop at 13,'' Federer said in a courtside televised interview. ``That would be terrible.''

After losing to Rafael Nadal in the finals of the French Open and Wimbledon earlier this season, the victory means Federer keeps alive a run of claiming at least one of the four major tennis titles every year since 2002.

``I had a couple of tough Grand Slams this year. To take this one home is incredible,'' said Federer, who lost his world No. 1 ranking to Nadal last month. ``It means the world to me.''

Murray, seeking to become the first British man in 72 years to win a major, had won his past two meetings against Federer.

``I got the better of him the past two times, but he definitely set the record straight,'' said Murray, who climbed to No. 4 in the world rankings. ``I've got a lot of improving to do if I'm going to win one of these tournaments.''

Quick Start

Federer took the first set in 27 minutes, winning the final four games and breaking Murray's serve twice.

The No. 2 seed moved better in the first set, coming off a day of rest yesterday while Murray had to complete his semifinal win over Nadal. Through the first six matches, Federer spent almost 3 1/2 fewer hours on court than the 21-year-old Murray, who was playing in his first Grand Slam final.

Murray said afterwards he didn't have ``any chance'' in the opening set.

``I started the match well, I hit the ball well, I served well,'' Federer said. ``I put the pressure on Andy. I always had a little bit of a cushion.''

Federer also broke Murray in the second game of the second set to open a 2-0 lead. The Scot answered by breaking to love, then held to even the match 2-2. Murray had triple-break point in the next game and missed a chance to win the game when a ball hit long by Federer wasn't called out. The Swiss went on to win the point and the game.

Playing in his first tournament since 2004 without the top ranking, Federer won four straight points on Murray's serve at 6-5 to take the second set.

`Aggressive'

``I played really aggressive on the game I broke to win the set,'' Federer said. ``That was key because after that it was going to be really hard for Andy to come back. I just started to play freely, the way I usually do, and it was great to have that feeling out here on center court in a final.''

In the third set, Federer dropped only three points in racing out to a 5-0 lead. He lost the next two games before clinching the title on his serve when Murray returned an overhead smash before putting a second attempt into the net.

Federer fell to the court, rolled to his back and put his hands over his face after improving to 45-4 all-time at the tournament.

``I came up against, in my opinion, the best player ever to play the game,'' Murray said.

Murray, who was seeded sixth, rubbed his right knee and grimaced on several occasions during the final two sets. He said afterwards that his knee problems didn't have any bearing on the outcome.

Federer received $1.5 million for the victory and is the first man to win the event five straight times since Bill Tilden in 1924. Tilden went on to win his sixth title the following year. William Larned (1907-11) and Richard Sears (1881-87) are the only other men to win the tournament at least five consecutive times.

Federer has lost 13 sets during his winning streak at the U.S. Open and has dropped just two sets in his five championship matches at the National Tennis Center.

His 13th major title comes in his 38th attempt. Sampras reached the same mark in his 43rd Grand Slam.

``In the big tournaments, he never has early losses,'' said Murray, who received $1 million. ``He's been so dominant.''

this camp was especially emotional for me.
not only because we managed to win 2nd place in 天才之夜, best house best group
but because i accepted god into my heart

heehee. first up is zheng hua's ncc unit. he's my friend from OBS and he's also the USM(MSG) there. they are not bad for first timers :) at least they didn't drop rifles. and the smoke and fireworks effect is quite impressive

next up is HCINCC's PDS.
rumoured by some fag commenter that they are the best in singapore.
they're really good :) but i won't actually say they are the best judging from this vid:)

As inspired by ngik hiong's and jolene's enthusiasm about blogging bout' the sec 4s

i decided to do one too.

But first, i want to do a recount. (AGAIN??)
when i first knew that i was in NPCC
i sweared :X
(i was quite vulgar when i was sec1 and 2)
NPCC was my 2nd choice (1-CO,3-SJAB,4-English drama,5-computer club)
so i totally didn't expect to get in NPCC manz
Unbeknown to most of you,
I WAS FROM A GOLD AWARD CHINESE ORCHESTRA IN PRIMARY SCHOOL!
so i was dying to go to CO
but argh, mrs neo say cannot change.

when to the first training held in the history room
where i was sitting with val they all if i'm not wrong
ms teo rattled on and on.
and i believed every word she said man.
innocent mind cheated by evil OC cum history teacher's propaganda
But i really didn't like this guy in PT kit that looked like an ah-beng with this bag thing clipped to his pants (act cool)
cause i've never seen him using it

the next few trainings were practically tekan tekan tekan then make us do weird things like lie down in the concourse and stare into the sky.
i never understood why eng kiat sir always picked people like balh blah(you know what i mean) all the chiox girls. pff.

it was until the GRAND arrival of Xiu Min ma'am, Jia Ying ma'am and Mervyn sir that i started to feel this love for NP.
they allowed us to volunteer and were MUCH MUCH more reasonable.
(unlike ek sir who pumped us like 200+ when our floor was black<-like hello~ )

June camp was enjoyable.
i learned a lot from that camp.
ATC that year, i was paired with MEGAN.
whom i thought was a teeny weeny bit whiny o.O
very de niang and campcraft not so good :P
but she was always beside me!
awww no matter how tired or scared i was, megan was always, always beside me.
and ms poh! <-:D:D:D:D joined us too.

Sec3 life was the bomb.
We're preparing for yet another stage in our NP life, NCO-ship
because we had no seniors before us. none of us were sure what to do.
but i daresay. we did it well.

that year, i joined .177 air rifle,NDP, interunit quiz, .22, OBSingapore as well as OBSabah.
all were opportunities for me to learn

in .177, i learnt how to work under extreme stress and pressure, using it as a force to push myself to the limit.

in NDP, i got to know a lot of new commands, got tips on how to be a good NCO/CI and even got a bio tutor!

in interunit quiz, i learnt how team support and encouragement was vital. How we should work together ON STAGE. and how chopsticks can cheer ngik hiong, ashley and valerie up.

in .22, i learnt how you must speak up when injustice is done or you'll regret it.

in OBSingapore, i learnt how important morale is, how to communicate, and how to do the best that you can do. Nothing is impossible, like a first time kayaker kayaking for 8 hours straight.

in OBSabah, i learnt how encouragement can push someone so hard that she is able to do a lot of things she's never thought of before. Also, to control your emotions, keep it to yuorself and continue to help the group move forward.

in sec 4, the shortest phase of my NP life, where i had my POP.
Tears shed and hugs around.
I'm sure we'll never forget each other for life.

Ashley-
I've always thought of you as bossy when we were in sec1 and 2.
so sorry we called you 最能干的。
you were always so outstanding (sec2 group best camper, LMSC best trainee and ATC3 best camper)
honestly, i was a bit scared of you.
and when the first five of us got promoted to staff.
i seriously thought you deserved it. (: (:

i went to school not expecting much.
but after all it's my last last last parade/training as a cadet.

the parade segment went off well.
didn't screw up :)
but aww. i noticed that some of the juniors still have a bit of problems with their drills
lol. it was cool how everybody threw their berets out and started tucking out their shirts xD

then we dismantled everything(including my super tight[thanks to the rain] clove hitchES)

the one i really need to thank is Mervyn sir
he was the one who first gave me a wake up call on attitude during the sec 2 june camp
helped me in my amaths when i couldn't cope
gave me advice and his views twice.
how he let me know that pei yi ma'am and himself are always at my back
and that i can turn to them anytime
which i did when i had the greatest letdown in secondary four

Brief description of the competition:

This is a game similar to that of Monopoly, except that it requires teams to move to various stations.
Teams will roll the dice provided and advance to the next station, according to the number indicated on the dice, and the sites indicated on the given map.
At each station, teams will complete the activity given in order to earn points.

The team with the most points accumulated at the end of the game will be the winner.

*Participating teams would be briefed in detail on the actual day*

Program of the event is as follows

2.30pm – 2.45pm Registration of teams

2.45pm – 3.00pm Briefing on the rules and regulations

3.00pm – 5.30pm “Journey to the East” BEGINS!

5.30pm – 5.45pm Break

5.45pm – 6.00pm Prize presentation

Rules and Regulations

The Competition is open only to Secondary 1 and 2 cadets in NPCC Units

The competition will only take place if there is a minimum of 6 participating teams. Each team consists of 6 participants and a minimum of 2 female participants.

Only a maximum of 12 teams are allowed to participate.

Each NPCC Unit is allowed to send only one entry.

Participants are to complete all required fields. Incomplete forms will be considered void.

so we returned to school
followed michelle and gang to T3(terminal three) to eat.
apparently although jolene already said it was expensive there
we still went there.
but it was really nice and SERENE( nobody there)
and the food was ok. (mac)
except that the chili sauce actually tasted like it was mixed with tea.
i've also learnt something
michelle eats her burger w/o mayo and leona eats her fries w/o salt.
lol.

we walked around a bit
visited the candy empire which was full of chocolates and sweets

later, we went back to TM and i went to watch a movie with jolene and yan ling
"L: change the world"
excellent movie. loved it a lot!
and i'm still sad over watari's and L's death.
and Near was cute ha.

and thanks alot jolene for watching the movie with me :D
cause i know it was the second time you've watched it already.
it was really wonderful sitting beside you and making crap remarks!
and those guys behind us.
